In recognition of Tina Powell’s gift of 300 autographed FREDDY AND THE BLUE JAYS books to the Oakville Little League, Tina was invited to their Challengers Season Opener on May 29th. As a gesture of appreciation, the OLL gave Tina a cheque for $500 to donate to HIPPY Halton, a local preschool literacy organization. According to Tina, the BEST part of all was personally handing each child their book. It was a spectacular opening day and … they all had a BALL!

TINA POWELL
Hello, GLORIOUS YOU! My name is Tina Powell and I am Founder and Chief Content Curator of the social media movement GLORIOUS IS SHE™. @glorious_is_she
My mission is to celebrate Canadian women who inspire, achieve and empower. We’ve all read the headlines about how social media can negatively impact the mental health and self-esteem of women.
I challenged myself to create a social media page that would do the opposite. GLORIOUS IS SHE™ elevates women’s voices, honours their achievements and encourages them to chase their dreams.
It is an inclusive, safe, positive, respectful place for women to gather. We celebrate the famous, the newsworthy and most importantly, ordinary women doing extraordinary things.
Yes, we accept nominations and love to feature our GLORIOUS followers in FOLLOWER FOCUS. You can follow GLORIOUS IS SHE™ on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
Random Fun Facts About My Life as an Author, Advocate & Advisor: I got the Toronto Blue Jays to work with me on Freddy and the Blue Jays by sending chocolate telephones to key decision makers.
My lifestyle book Picnic in Pisticci saved a park in Pisticci, Italy.
During the pandemic, I personally donated $20,000 in children’s books to teachers and children’s organizations.
My Superpower: I give more than I take.
Please connect with me through my website tinapowell.com or via any of my social media pages.
NEW! Glorious is She™ Award Program
When I started GLORIOUS IS SHE™ (formerly Canadian Women Who Rock) on July 13, 2021, I had no idea how much this platform would resonate with Canadian women. I am so very grateful for your support. I am also wildly impressed with how each and every one of my followers inspire, achieve and empower others. That’s why I created the GLORIOUS IS SHE™ AWARD PROGRAM!
The object of the program is to celebrate, honour and recognize ordinary women who have done extraordinary things. Anyone who was or is featured on GLORIOUS IS SHE™ between July 13, 2021 and July 1, 2022 is automatically entered in the three award categories: INSPIRATION, EMPOWERMENT and ACHIEVEMENT. Famous celebrities or public figures are not eligible to win (sorry Jann Arden, but we still love you). Winners must also be GLORIOUS IS SHE™ Followers with Public Accounts. A group of GLORIOUS, diverse, badass women will assist in the selection process.
The three award winners will be announced on July 13, 2022 and each will receive one of the stunning trophies in the image. You will be happy to know that these trophies were produced by a woman-owned-and-operated business. Shoutout to Rebecca, Sherri and Vi of Sid’s Trophies in Oakville, ON!
Congratulations to all the nominees! If you have not yet been featured on GLORIOUS IS SHE™ or would like to nominate someone for a feature, message me through my CONTACT page. Anyone featured before July 1 will qualify for this year’s awards.
Looking forward to celebrating the 2022 GLORIOUS IS SHE™ AWARD recipients with you on July 13th!

@50ForwardClub Recognizes GLORIOUS IS SHE™!
Thank you to Lisa Murphy and @50ForwardClub (Instagram) for this feature on my women’s advocacy work with GLORIOUS IS SHE™. I am grateful to the extraordinary Canadian women I get to feature in my posts and to my GLORIOUS followers.
In today’s 50+ profile, we’re featuring Tina Powell. Tina is an award-winning communicator, bestselling children’s author, journalist & founder of @glorious_is_she — a celebration of Canadian women who inspire, achieve and empower.
The turning point: “The pandemic offered time to ponder the big questions of life. I had been a children’s author, a journalist, earned multiple academic degrees, and raised my family — yet something was missing. There’s a social post that opens with the words: “And when you get where you’re going, turn around and help her too.” At 58, I suddenly felt a compulsion to support and advocate for women. So I sat on the board of a women’s organization, became a mentor for the York University Advancing Women Program, and founded GLORIOUS IS SHE™ (GIS). We’ve all read about cyberbullying and the negative impacts of social media. I decided to create an online movement that would do the opposite. GLORIOUS IS SHE elevates women’s voices, honours their achievements, and encourages them to chase their dreams.”
The process: “I began posting about Canadian women. On GLORIOUS IS SHE™ you see women from all different ethnicities, ages, geographic locations, socioeconomic status, abilities, religions, sexual orientations and gender identities. It’s a welcoming, inclusive, safe and respectful space. No matter how popular GLORIOUS IS SHE™ may become, it will never be monetized. All proceeds from GIS merchandise or my autographed children’s books go to women’s charities and children’s literacy organizations, respectively. When I’m not working on GIS, I’m completing writing projects for clients or meeting with my York University Advancing YU mentees or aspiring authors.”
The payoff: “I have met some amazing women! I am inspired every day. When icons like Clara Hughes, Marci Ien, and Jully Black are thanking ME for featuring them, it blows my mind. The sisterhood is strong.”
The next goal: “If the GIS follower base continues to grow, I’d love to launch a GLORIOUS IS SHE™ Award Program and Scholarships.”
The advice: “You are NEVER too old to reinvent yourself. As Canadian poet Rupi Kaur wrote, ‘Curtains up at fifty. Let’s begin the show.’”
