I am beyond thrilled to share that my article “A Case for Motherhood as an Intersectional Identity: A Feminist’s Labour of Love” has just been published in the latest issue of the Journal of the Motherhood Initiative — Motherhood to Motherhoods” Ideologies of the “Feminine” — Fall / Winter 2024; Vol. 14 No. 2!
This bi-annual peer-reviewed scholarly journal on the topic of mothering and motherhood — founded and edited by Dr. Andrea O’Reilly — is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. I am grateful to Andrea O’Reilly for her profound contribution to Motherhood Studies and for her mentorship … to Chapman University for the opportunity to present this piece in California last year … and to York University — Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies for supporting my academic pursuits. Special thanks to my husband, Randy Powell, for his unwavering support and encouragement. 💖
You can find my full article here … as well as brilliant articles from other York University scholars.

On October 12, 2023, it was with great pride that I walked across the graduation stage at York University’s fall convocation to receive my second Master’s degree. As an advocate for women, I am passionate about Gender, Feminist & Women’s Studies … and York University’s Graduate Program is one of the best! I am now currently working toward my PhD at York. My research interests include matricentric feminism, birth mothers in the foster care system, and motherhood as an intersectional identity.
Thank you Universal Womens Network™ | Women-Owned for the honour of being selected as a 2022 Women of Inspiration Authentic Leader Award recipient! I am sincerely grateful for this recognition and feel even more empowered to continue supporting children’s literacy and women’s advocacy.
Congratulations to all the nominees, finalists and award recipients!
